The Facenda Whitaker lanes opened up their doors in 1959, at the 28 Lane Bowling Center. It was supposed to be called the Care City Bowlero, but it changed. It takes it name after John Facenda, who was the premier newscaster in the valley, and Jack Whitaker, who was the premier sports and weatherman for the same station. In 1960, 22 lanes were added to make a total of 50. Then in 1985, Steppy’s Sports Bar & Grille was added to the center. In 2002, the grille as expanded and a new bowling center entrance was added, along with a Pro Shop, Meeting and Seminar rooms, and a Game room. Today, the Facenda Whitaker lanes are an icon in the community.
